 Dear Branch Secretary,

The challenges we have faced over the last year are unprecedented and it has been Unite reps standing up for our members, demanding safer workplaces and protecting members from managers and employers using covid as an excuse to bully, demand more and exploit people.

Unite reps have moved mountains through covid to ensure members have the very best protection - all whilst coping with the challenges the pandemic threw at them as workers and individuals and it is our members who have been at the heart of the community response protecting the most vulnerable.

As we emerge from the pandemic, we must ensure our members are not asked to pick up the costs. The pandemic has shone a light not just on inequalities in society and who the real key workers are – but also on billionaires who have made obscene amounts of profits during the pandemic whilst workers struggled to get sick pay.

We must be at our very best to fight off the inevitable attacks from unscrupulous employers attempting to use covid as an excuse to cut jobs and slash pay, and to demand more for our members.

Together we can ensure that all of our union, every sector, every region and nation, has the resources we need to demand a fair recovery, a recovery that is built on investment and support, on jobs and growth and the resources needed to campaign and fight off attacks like the wave of immoral fire and rehire attacks we are seeing.

There is power in our union and as your General Secretary, together we would ensure our power is used to protect members.
